Youth Community Park Skate Park
Date
July, 1994
Location
1701 Fulton RD, Santa Rosa, CA
Youth Community Park skate park stands out as one of the earliest examples of purpose-built terrain for skateboarding in the United States. Designed at a time when few skateparks existed, this project drew heavily from surfing, using organic shapes, wide-radius corners, and open transitions that encouraged carving and continuous movement. The skate park was a central element of a larger master plan developed by Ken Wormhoudt, where skateboarding was treated as a legitimate recreational need alongside trails, sports fields, and natural space. Today, the park remains in excellent condition and continues to see regular use, a testament to both the quality of construction and the long-term value of user-informed planning.
